Breed-Specific Techniques
Every breed has its own grooming needs:
Double-Coated (Huskies, Goldens, German Shepherds): NEVER shave a double coat. Focus on de-shedding and bath/blow-out.
Curly/Wool Coats (Poodles, Doodles, Bichons): Your bread and butter — they need grooming every 4-6 weeks. Master scissoring and clipper work. Matting is the number one issue.
Wire/Terrier Coats (Schnauzers, Westies): Hand-stripping vs clipping. Distinct patterns with skirts, eyebrows, and beards.
Short/Smooth Coats (Labs, Boxers): Bath, blow-dry, nails, ears. Great for building speed and confidence.
Start with bath dogs and short coats, then work up to poodle cuts. Nobody masters scissoring in their first month.
