Calculating Your Cost Per Groom

Most groomers have no idea what each groom costs them.

Fixed monthly costs: Insurance about $40, utilities increase about $75, software about $40, license about $10. Total: about $165 per month.

Per-groom costs: Shampoo $1-$3, blade wear about $1, towels about $0.50, finishing products about $0.75. Total: about $3-$5 per dog.

Example: 100 dogs per month. Fixed costs equal $1.65 per dog. Variable costs about $4. Total cost: about $6 per groom. If you charge $75 and it costs you $6, your gross profit is $69. At 100 grooms per month, that is $6,900 before taxes. Know your numbers.
