Dog grooming does not require certification in most states, but the right credentials build trust.
Worth getting:
- NDGAA — National Dog Groomers Association. Written and practical exams. Industry respected.
- IPG — International Professional Groomers. Multiple levels.
- Pet First Aid and CPR — Through Red Cross or PetTech. Quick, inexpensive, clients love it.
The truth: Clients care more about your reviews, before/after photos, and how their dog acts at pickup than certificates on your wall. But certifications give credibility when starting out.
Invest in skills first, certifications second.
